The article gives the following example: “For example, Taiwanese securities laws still require all shares to be issued at at least NT$10 ($0.33), which means if a company gives its founders equity, or “technical shares” as it is called in Taiwan, it will be treated by the government as taxable income, calculated based on the NT$10 value times the amount of “free” shares the founders receive.”
